The Fréd Awards

Not only are the The Fréd Awards a way of recognising the people behind the scenes who help create a better bike culture they are a great way of taking the pulse

The 4th Annual Fréd Award was once again held in Place NI. Best Café headed west of the Bann… to Maghera. The new category of Best Cycling School headed to North Belfast and cycling stalwart picked up Fréd of the Year on his way to retirement from front-line politics.

Best Cycle Writer goes to Boston MA via the North Coast, a vintage French bike brand gets resurrected and scoops a Fréd, the whole of Belfast picks up Worst Bike Infrastructure… for the 2nd year running.

Cycling hits the headlines in 2014 with the Giro d'Italia starting in Belfast and Armagh and the Northern Ireland Minister for Infrastructure launches his vision for cycling with a ground breaking conference… and comes along to present the awards.

The Fréd Awards are introduced to recognise the people and places who put an enormous amount of work into building cycle culture.The inaugural awards were presented by Belfast Lord Mayor, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir in the Linenhall Library, Belfast.
